years ....ago .....Kolkata..
1987 ....I was driving an Ambassador sedan
boom ....I crashed into the back of a rickshaw ...
accidents provoked mobs ......drivers got beaten up........
the old frail passenger ---a middle aged soul
appealed for mercy .....saved me that day from....
a sure lynchin' .......
today my Maruti / Suzuki sedan was rammed
by a young impetuous boy .......
I remembered '87 ....a wave of pity washed over me
I appealed to the bystanders & angry passengers
of my car ...." let him go .....it was a genuine mistake ..."
he rushed off gratefully .....
the infinite kindness of a stranger
was repaid today by mercy to another stranger
---'nother young man !?!
I saw my young impetuous self in him .....
this was Mumbai
that was Kolkata
but the situation was eerily similar

todski28about 10 years agothe time shift and similarity in rememberance added a tension that really worked well to the piece, glad that you weren't beaten and the boy was ok, the wheel turns again, this poem can run in a perpetual loop if there wasn't a date in there.
