I don’t have the words right now,
My anger is beating in my chest.
My lungs are overpowered
And my soul rages from neglect.
I stood and watched and waited.
My eyes innocent by my youth,
As mommy slapped daddy,
And I learned to see the ugly truth.
For years her words did punish
And for decades he did bleed.
A wound he thought he carried
Like a shield for sis and me.
When in fact all it did,
Was breed another soul like hers,
Who delivers slaps of wrath
Inside me daddy’s pain still stirs.
My spouse, he now lays bleeding
From a blow delivered quick,
Ones I know I’ll just keep giving,
Because daddy helped her, make me sick.
One Daughter’s Poem is not a poem about me, but I have seen in the past how abuse in the home can mold and damage others. I felt compelled to write this and I hope that any that read it, hear it, feel it or see abuse whether physical or mental, you seek help from friends/family and strangers. Please call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1−800−799−SAFE(7233) or TTY 1−800−787−3224.
