Literotica Volunteer Editors Program

The Literotica Volunteer Editors Program is a feature which matches authors with compatible editors.

As the name implies, every editor in the program is volunteering their time to help erotica authors improve their craft. Whether you have never published a story before or have fourteen novels on the New York Times Bestseller List, we hope our Volunteer Editor Program can help you find an editor to make your next story your best story.

If you’d like to jump right into the program, you can go directly to our Find An Editor For Your Story FAQ now. If you’d like to know more about getting the most out of the program, read on.

To get the most out of the Literotica Volunteer Editors Program, we recommend the following.

  • Take the time to find an editor who truly matches up with your content and writing style.
  • Let the editor you select know what you need help with (plot, dialogue, grammar, character development, et cetera).
  • Be patient and appreciative of your editor, as they are giving you their valuable time out of kindness.
  • Don’t be defensive if an editor makes suggestions with which you don’t agree. You don’t have to take all of their advice, but the feedback your editor provides may be similar to feedback you’ll receive from readers once the work is published.
  • Compare the entire work before and after the editing process to make sure that it doesn’t get “over edited” to the point where your voice or unique style is lost. A good editor will attempt to keep your personal storytelling voice/style strong, while improving things that might get in the way of a great reading experience.
  • Don’t rush to publish a work that isn’t ready. This is true even when you don’t have an editor. Give yourself time to write your work, and then review it a few times before hitting the “Publish” button.

There are many things to consider when working with an editor, but the most important part of the process will be finding someone compatible with you (in content and style) and then helping them to help you become the best author you can be.

In addition to our FAQ on Finding A Volunteer Editor, we also have an article on how you can Become A Volunteer Editor if you’d like to volunteer to help other Literotica Authors improve their work.

If you have questions about the Literotica Volunteer Editors Program - as an author or editor - please feel free to post them in the Literotica Editors Support Forum.
